Koh Samui is one of the islands outside of Bangkok. It's about 1 1/2 hours by plane and lots of fun. There are many bars and some restaurants, too. We partied until late into the night (or early into the morning depending on how you look at it). We did find time to eat and here are the restaurants we tried.
